Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Web Ortamında Bilgi Arama ve Yorumlama Stratejileri İle Epistemolojik İnançları Arasındaki İlişki / The Relationship between the University Students’ Information Searching and Evaluative Strategies in Web-Based Environments and Their Epistemological Commitments

Year 2017, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 58 - 74, 15.08.2017

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between university students’ information searching and evaluative strategies in web-based environments and their epistemological commitments. A statistically significant correlation was established in support of the findings that the students who believe that learning depends on effort tend to use the strategies that involve checking multiple sources for accuracy and presenting the information in an organized way; whereas the students who believe that learning depends on ability tend to use technical and visual strategies; while the students who believe that there is only one truth, tend to search the material on official and authorized websites. The study also found a positive average level correlation between the students’ commitments that learning depends on effort, learning depends on ability and that there is only one truth, and the students’ simple searching and evaluative strategies.
