Ara Tatil Uygulamasına Yönelik Öğrenci, Öğretmen ve Veli Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi / A Research on Opinions of Students, Teachers and Parents about Midterm Holiday

Countries occasionally make new reforms to make the education system more comprehensive and improve the quality of education. As an indicator of this effort in Turkey, a one-week midterm holiday activity plan was prepared in 2019, once in the spring and fall terms of each academic year. The prepared plan was put into effect considering that it will support educational activities. New research is needed to determine how this new practice is perceived and evaluated by education stakeholders. In this context, the current study was carried out to examine the views of teachers, students and parents about the holiday activity plan. Within the framework of this purpose, semi-structured interviews and focus group interviews were conducted based on the qualitative research approach in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, with 8 students, 8 teachers and 8 parents, who are the stakeholders of this application and who were selected according to the appropriate and maximum diversity sampling methods. The data obtained from the participants was analyzed by content analysis. Considering the results of the research, it is seen that the opinions of the teachers who participated in the research about the midterm holiday activities focused on breathing, cohesion, professional development, student problems; students' views focused on decreasing stress and rest, elimination of deficiencies, social activity, and course; on the other hand, the views of parents focused on such common topics as disruption of education and seeking support. Based on the research results; in order to spend the midterm holiday more efficiently, it is recommended to organize optional trainings by experts in their field that will contribute to the professional development of teachers, to prepare repetitive-based plans to prevent students from forgetting what they learned before the holiday, and finally to organize social and cultural activities for students by the ministry and school.

Ülkeler eğitim sistemini daha nitelikli bir hale getirebilmek ve öğretimin kalitesini artırabilmek için ara sıra yeni reformlar yapmaktadır. Türkiye’de de bu çabanın bir göstergesi olarak 2019 yılından itibaren her eğitim öğretim yılının bahar ve güz dönemlerinde birer hafta uygulanmak üzere ara tatil etkinlik planını hazırlanmıştır. Hazırlanan plan, eğitim öğretim faaliyetlerine destek olacağı göz önünde bulundurularak yürürlüğe geçirilmiştir. Ortaya konan bu yeni uygulamanın eğitim paydaşları tarafından nasıl algılandığını ve nasıl değerlendirildiğini belirlemek için yeni araştırmalara ihtiyaç vardır. Bu bağlamda mevcut çalışmada ara tatil etkinlik planına ilişkin öğretmen, öğrenci ve veli görüşlerini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaç çerçevesinde bu uygulamanın paydaşları olan, uygun ve maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemlerine göre belirlenen 8 öğrenci, 8 öğretmen ve 8 veli ile 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılı güz döneminde nitel araştırma yaklaşımı temel alınarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme ve odak grup görüşmesi yapılmıştır. Katılımcılardan elde edilen veriler içerik analiziyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucuna baktığımızda, araştırmaya katılım sağlayan öğretmenlerin ara tatil etkinliklerine ilişkin görüşlerinin; nefes alma, kaynaşma, mesleki gelişim, öğrenci sorunları; öğrenci görüşlerinin stresin azalması ve dinlenme, eksikleri kapatma, sosyal aktivite ve kurs; veli görüşlerinin ise eğitimin aksaması ve destek arayışı kategorileri etrafında yoğunlaştığı görülmektedir. Araştırma sonuçlarına dayalı olarak ara tatilin daha verimli geçirebilmesi için; öğretmenlerin mesleki gelişimine katkı sağlayacak alanında uzman kişiler tarafından isteğe bağlı eğitimler düzenlenmesi, öğrencilerin tatil öncesi öğrenilenleri unutmasını engelleyecek tekrar temelli planlar hazırlanması ve son olarak bakanlık ve okul tarafından öğrencilere yönelik sosyal ve kültürel etkinlikler düzenlenmesi önerilmektedir.
