Examining Organizational Commitment Levels of Psychological Counselors and Teachers of Guidance in Terms of Certain Variables

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the organizational commitment levels of psychological counselors and teachers of guidance in terms of certain variables. Under this purpose, "Teachers’ Organizational Commitment Scale" applied to teachers who are working in public schools. The research has been built in quantitative design and causal-comparative research model. The population of the research was composed of 647 psychological counselors and teachers of guidance working in the central districts of Diyarbakır city during the 2020-2021 education term. 152 teachers were selected for the sample of the study using simple random sampling. According to the results of the study, statistically not significant difference was found in the organizational commitment levels of psychological counselors and teachers of guidance, the undergraduate program graduated from, school size, and school-level variables. But professional seniority and being tenure or contractual caused a significant difference in the level of organizational commitment. As the professional seniority of the psychological counselors and teachers of guidance increased, a significant increase was observed in their organizational commitment levels. In addition, the organizational commitment of tenure teachers was found to be significantly higher compared to contracted teachers. Therefore, the concept of contractual teachers should be reconsidered by policymakers.
