Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Career Development of Gifted Students / Özel Yetenekli Öğrencilerin Kariyer Gelişimine Yönelik Araştırmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi

Abstract

The purpose of the current study is to perform bibliometric analysis and interpretation of international studies indexed in the SCOPUS database. In this respect, it is thought that the study will shed light for future studies on the career planning of gifted students. The study was conducted by using the bibliometric mapping method based on the descriptive research approach. In line with the purpose of the study, the literature review was conducted using the SCOPUS database, which indexes journals from different disciplines, by using the key concepts of “Gifted*” or “Talented” and “Career” between 09:00 and 19:00 (GMT +3) on 24.08.2022. The bibliometric analysis was performed on 47 articles selected on the basis of the inclusion and exclusion criteria from a total of 1679 articles. The bibliometric analysis of the articles was made in terms of year, authors who contributed the most to the field, the countries in which they were published and key concepts. According to the results of the bibliometric analysis, the effects of parents, school counsellors, various teaching techniques and demographic characteristics on the career planning of gifted middle school students are emphasized in the articles. In this respect, it is thought that studies in which gifted middle school students will be helped to realize their own identities should be expanded by making use of both qualitative and quantitative measurement tools. In addition, the inclusion of the career life of field experts from various sectors or of gifted adults in the teaching process and the organization of trips to various institutions and organizations and investigating the effects of these trips on gifted students can bring a different perspective to the career planning process of gifted students.
