Meta-Analysis of School Managers’ Self-Efficacy Perceptions According to Various Variables / Okul Yöneticilerinin Genel Öz Yeterlik Algılarının Çeşitli Değişkenlere Göre Meta-Analizi

Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to determine, through meta-analysis, to what extent the variables gender, postgraduate education, professional seniority and managerial seniority are effective on the self-efficacy perception of school managers. In addition, the study examined the presence of moderator variables (scale of study, year of study, type of study, type of school, region where it was implemented) that may have an impact on the relationship between self-efficacy perception and gender, graduate education status, professional seniority and managerial seniority. For this purpose, first of all, a comprehensive literature review was carried out and 65 articles and theses were reached. Then, the studies were eliminated according to the inclusion criteria and a meta-analysis was conducted with the effect sizes of 17 studies that met the criteria for the gender variable, 14 for the graduate education variable, 8 for the professional seniority variable, and 14 for the managerial seniority variable. In meta-analysis; For the gender variable, a total sample number of 3,485, including 771 women and 2,714 men, for the graduate education variable, a total sample number of 2,090, including 1,627 without postgraduate education and 463 with postgraduate education, for the professional seniority variable, 303 with 1-10 years of seniority, 11 years of seniority. A total sample number of 784 was reached, 481 of whom had a seniority of 1-10 years, and 451 of whom had a managerial experience of 1-10 years, for a total of 1215 samples. As a result of the research; It was determined that self-efficacy did not differ significantly according to gender, professional seniority and managerial seniority, but it did differ significantly according to the graduate education level variable and this differentiation was in favor of those who had postgraduate education. Based on these results, researchers may be advised to conduct a more comprehensive meta-analysis study by including studies conducted in other countries on the relationship between self-efficacy and gender, postgraduate education status and seniority, and to encourage school managers to receive postgraduate education, based on the conclusion that having a postgraduate education increases self-efficacy.
