Abstract
Nasreddin Hodja is the most important name of Anatolian culture. Nasreddin Hodja is both a master of humor and a great thinker and a folk sage. In Nasreddin Hodja jokes, there are points that will educate and make you think while entertaining. It is thought that children of all ages can find humorous elements in Nasreddin Hodja jokes according to their cognitive level. The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of preschool children about Nasreddin Hodja and Nasreddin Hodja jokes. The study group of the research, which was conducted in the basic qualitative research design, consisted of 59 children aged 48-73 months attending a kindergarten affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Antalya province. The data were collected through a "semi-structured interview form" prepared by the researcher. The children in the study group were interviewed individually. In the study, "I Was Going To Get Off Anyway", "He Was Sleepy", "The Direction Of The Donkey” jokes and three pictures related to these jokes and one Nasreddin Hodja picture were used. The data of the study were analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of the research, it was determined that most of the children knew Nasreddin Hodja, and that they mostly knew Nasreddin Hodja through cartoons/television. Children made explanations about Nasreddin Hodja's cartoons, personality traits, physical characteristics and jokes. It was observed that almost all of the children did not know what the joke meant and had not heard the jokes told before. “The Direction Of The Donkey" joke was the joke that the children found the funniest and laughed the most. In all jokes, children found the basic inconsistency in the joke funny the most. While it was seen that most of the children did not understand the humor in the jokes, it was determined that they understood the humor in the joke "He Was Sleepy" the most. It is a remarkable finding of the study that some of the children did not laugh even though they expressed that they found the jokes funny. It is recommended to include Nasreddin Hodja jokes in preschool education environments in order to enrich children's knowledge about Nasreddin Hodja and to support children's humor development.
