Examination of the Relationship between School Principals' Ethical Leadership Behaviors and Teachers' Organizational Trust Levels / Okul Yöneticilerinin Etik Liderlik Davranışlarıyla Öğretmenlerin Örgütsel Güven Düzeyleri Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi
Abstract
In this study, the relationship between school principals’ ethical leadership behaviors and teachers’ organizational trust levels were examined according to the teachers’ perspective. Sample of the study, which was designed in the correlational survey model, consists of 397 teachers working in two districts of Istanbul. Ethical Leadership Scale and Organizational Trust Scale were used throughout the study. Data obtained during the study were analyzed by arithmetic average, standard deviation, correlation analysis and regression analysis. According to the findings, teachers’ levels of organizational trust, and their perceptions regarding ethical leadership behaviors of school principals were found to be at a high level. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was found that there was a moderately positive and statistically significant relationship between ethical leadership and organizational trust. On the other hand, it was determined that ethical leadership significantly predicted teachers’ organizational trust. Based on the results obtained from the research, the relationship between leadership and trust can be better understood by conducting research on how different leadership behaviors of school principals affect teachers' organizational trust levels; trainings can be organized for both school principals and teachers about the importance of acting in accordance with the ethical principles required by the teaching profession, and in this context, in order to enable educators to internalize professional ethical principles; based on case studies, awareness of teachers and school principals about different situations and their possible consequences can be increased; it can be ensured that teachers are involved in the management process by taking their opinions in the decisions and activities to be made in order to increase their organizational trust level; school principals can be selected more objectively and school management can be made a more professional profession.
