Fatih Projesi Kapsamında Tablet Bilgisayar İçeriklerinin Değerlendirilmesi / Evaluatıon of Tablet Computer Contents under Fatih Project

Abstract

Integration of tablet computers with the adaptation of rich contents to education will be helpful for targeted change in education. Tablet computers are defined as mobile technologies which can provide portable experience and have interactive tools for teachers and students. However, it will be disappointed if tablet computers, performed by important goals and large investments, have not enough interactive, visual and audio contents. In this vein, the purpose of this study is to investigate the course contents which are placed in tablet computers or can be accessed via the Education Information Network (EBA) for usage of teachers and students. In this way, it will be discussed on support of audio, video, animation and etc., and what can be done to eliminate if any shortcomings for produced contents. Method: Study is based on content analysis to evaluate the contents which are used for tablet computers distributed under Fatih Project. It was conducted on only e-books on EBA which consists of 1422 e-books, 5270 course videos, 3176 audios and 54147 visuals contents prepared for using in tablet computers and services by Ministry of Education (MEB). Evaluation of all of the e-books cannot be convenient and therefore, totally 24 e-books among these were examined, including two e-books for each class. Within this study; the books in the EBA were examined in four different categories that are expected from e-books; (1) interactive, (2) enriched with video and audio contents, (3) supported with visual objects and (4) accessible. Audios and videos of the related course were taken into consideration, although they are collected on a different topic, in order to evaluate the e-books downloaded from EBA efficiently. For this reason; the substance about (2) enriched with video and audio contents was evaluated with these objects under research. Findings: It wasn't found any interactive elements among 24 e-books examined within this research. In the examination of selected e-books; 5 e-books have both audio and video files, 3 e-books have only audio files, 11 e-books have only video files and finally 5 e-books don't have audio as well as video files. As a result; it was detected that 16 e-books (66.66%) supported with video files and 8 e-books (33.33%) supported with audio files. Totally 338 pieces of audio files and 338 pieces of video files of 24 e-books have been reached. Under examined e-books, frequently pictures, shapes and different colors placed as learning objects were observed. It was noticed that visual objects were supported by subject titles and updated. Within this research; 60 MB e-books were downloaded without any problem. However downloading of e-books between 60 and 100 MB and over lasted for many hours even if it was tried as many. Therefore, downloading of some of the e-books were abandoned because of these problems Conclusion: In conclusion, the services e-books with only pdf format without interactive objects are seen to fade some dreams planned for education with tablet computers. While e-books should be supported by audio or video files, the lack of these materials and not having any connection to these files are faced as another problem. Downloading problems which were determined for bigger than 60 MG e-books serviced on EBA by MEB will not enough for 10 million students and hundreds of thousands teachers and therefore cause the emergence of greater problems.
