Psychological Flexibility as a Predictor of Coping Self-Efficacy Among University Students / Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Baş Etme Yetkinliğinin Yordayıcısı Olarak Psikolojik Esneklik

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the predictive relationship between coping self-efficacy belief and psychological flexibility. Another aim of the study id to examine sex differences according to variables. The research was designed in the survey model using the quantitative research method. The sample of the research consists of 1st and 2nd year students attending different departments in a state university. The sample consists of 136 people, 72 of whom are women and 64 are men. The age range of the study group was 17-24 and the mean age was 21.42 (Sd: 1.76). In the research, the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale was used to measure the level of coping self-efficacy and the Acceptance and Action Form-2 was used to measure the level of psychological flexibility as data collection tools. The correlation coefficient was calculated in order to determine whether there was a significant relationship between the variables. The predictive relationship between the variables was examined by simple regression analysis. The sub-dimensions of coping self-efficacy (problem-focused coping, coping with social support, coping by stopping feelings and thoughts) and psychological flexibility were examined with the T-test to examine sex differences. According to the findings, there is a moderate and negative significant relationship between psychological flexibility and coping self-efficacy (r =-.41, p<.001), and psychological flexibility explains 16% of the variance of coping self-efficacy. According to another result, coping self-efficacy, sub-dimensions of coping-efficacy and psychological flexibility do not show a significant difference according to gender.
