The Effect of the Life and Technology-Based Ecology Learning Model on Students' Environmental Perception / Yaşam ve Teknoloji Temelli Ekoloji Öğrenme Modelinin Öğrencilerin Çevre Algısına Etkisi
Abstract
Abstract
This study aims to measure the effects of teaching conducted with the Life and Technology-Based Ecology Learning Model on students' environmental perception. The research was conducted with 30 undergraduate science education students who are enrolled in a state university faculty of education. The study group was determined by purposeful sampling method. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, which is a quantitative research method, was used in the research. The "Environmental Perception Scale" developed by Çakmak (2020) was utilized as the data collection tool to find out whether there were significant differences between groups before and after the application for both the treatment and control groups. The scale consists of 32 items and 7 subcategories. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale was calculated as.93. The lowest score to be obtained from the scale is 32 and the highest score is 160. The implementation of the learning model lasted for 14 weeks. The research was carried out within the extent of the Sustainable Ecology course developed and proposed by the researchers. During the application process, life-and-technology-based experiments and applications are conducted with the treatment group students as well as the conventional teaching. The application designed for the research was implemented within the scope of 6 main themes. The results of the study suggest that the post-test scores of the Environmental Perception Scale demonstrated a significant advantage for the treatment group. It was concluded that teaching conducted with the Life and Technology-Based Ecology Learning Model was more effective than traditional instruction regarding students' environmental perception acquisition. For future studies, it may be recommended to apply the Life and Technology-Based Ecology Learning Model to different age groups to investigate its effectiveness at various developmental stages.
