Abstract

The purpose of the study was to uncover the effects of the Research Methods course, in which flipped classroom model (FCM) is applied, on the research self-efficacy of students in graduate education science programs. It was also aimed to find out how the effect of FCM on Research Method in graduate education is on learning outcomes. The study was conducted with mixed design, a single-group pre-test-post-test experimental design and case study. A total of 11 students in educational sciences programs constituted the study group. Research self-efficacy data were collected with the Research Self-Efficacy Scale that was developed by Tuncer and Özeren (2012). Qualitative data for examining the effects of the Research Methods course on learning outcomes were obtained with the “Research Proposal Reports”, “Research Methods Learning Outcomes Evaluation Form” and “Research Method Opinions Form”. For the students to prepare for the course, the Research Method lecture videos for each week’s learning outcomes and contents were uploaded to the Learning Management System one week before each lesson. Activities for learning outcomes were performed in face-to-face lessons for three hours a week in the computer laboratory where each student had a computer for nine weeks. The data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Content Analysis, and Descriptive Analysis Technique. In the present study, it was concluded that the Research Method course in postgraduate education science students with FCM had a positive effect on the research self-efficacy of students. When the study results are evaluated in integrity, it was observed that the Research Method course with FCM has positive effects on both research self-efficacy and learning outcomes in graduate education science students. It is recommended to spread FCM practices in post-graduate Research Method courses.

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı lisansüstü eğitim bilimleri programlarında ters yüz sınıf modelinin uygulandığı araştırma yöntemleri dersinin, öğrencilerin araştırma öz-yeterliklerine etkilerini ortaya koymaktır. Ayrıca lisansüstü eğitimde ters yüz sınıf modelinin araştırma yöntemlerine yönelik öğrenme çıktıları üzerindeki etkilerinin nasıl olduğunu da ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma iç-içe geçmiş karma desenle yürütülmüştür. Araştırma öz-yeterliklerine etkiler nicel yöntemlerden tek gruplu ön test-son test deneysel desenle yürütülmüştür. Nitel yöntem olarak ise durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Eğitim bilimleri programlarındaki 11 lisansüstü öğrenci, araştırmanın çalışma grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma öz-yeterlikleri, Tuncer ve Özeren (2012) tarafından geliştirilen araştırma öz-yeterlikleri ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma yöntemleri dersinin öğrenme çıktılarına yönelik etkilerinin nasıl olduğunun incelenmesine yönelik nitel veriler, “Araştırma Önerisi Raporları”, “Araştırma Yöntemleri Öğrenme Çıktıları Değerlendirme Formu ” ve “Araştırma Yöntemleri Dersi Görüş Formu” ile toplanmıştır. Öğrencilerin ders hazırlığı yapabilmesi için her haftanın öğrenme çıktılarına ve içeriğine yönelik olan araştırma yöntemleri dersi anlatım videoları ve ders kaynakları her dersten bir hafta önce öğretim yönetim sistemine yüklenmiştir. Yüz yüze derslerde ise öğrenme çıktılarına yönelik yüz yüze etkinlikler haftada üçer saat boyunca her öğrenciye birer bilgisayarın düştüğü bilgisayar laboratuvarında dokuz hafta boyunca gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrenciler çalışmalarını sınıfta paylaşmışlardır, öğrencilere geri bildirimler verilmiştir. Nicel veriler, Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi; nitel veriler, içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, ters yüz sınıf modeli ile gerçekleştirilen araştırma yöntemleri dersinin, lisansüstü eğitim bilimleri öğrencilerinin araştırma öz-yeterlikleri ve öğrenme çıktılarının çoğunluğu üzerinde olumlu etkileri görülmüştür. Lisansüstü araştırma yöntemleri dersinde ters yüz sınıf modeli uygulanmalarının yaygınlaştırılması önerilmiştir.
