Instructor Opinions on Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (MSPC)'s Prerequisite for Music Teaching Programs / ÖSYM’nin Müzik Öğretmenliği Programlarıyla İlgili Ön Koşuluna Yönelik Öğretim Elemanı Görüşleri

Abstract

Education is the process of making formations/creations and changes in the individual's behavior, mind and emotions in a way that will make the individual himself/herself, the society he/she is in and the universe happy. The main factor of this process is the individual's abilities, competencies and characteristics (Toprakçı, 2012). However, some abilities and competencies need a special educational activity, and music education within the scope of art education is one of them. Music education, as a branch of pedagogy, produces information for practices in this field (Toprakçı, 2016). As the field of music education becomes richer, music education becomes more scientific and more effective practices are realized. In this context, students who will receive music education are subjected to a special exam. As of 2020, the prerequisite of the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (MSPC)being ranked in the top 800,000 was introduced as a prerequisite for teaching programs that take students with a special aptitude exam, and the student profile received so far has started to change with this prerequisite. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of this prerequisite on teaching programs and music teacher profile. For this purpose, 20 instructors working in music education departments of universities were interviewed. While determining the participant lecturers, the condition of having worked in music education departments before the prerequisite was sought. Data were collected face-to-face, via Zoom and e-mail with the "instructor interview form" developed by the researchers."Miles and Huberman Reliability Formula" was used to increase the reliability of the data obtained. The codes and themes were presented to four field experts, one assessment and evaluation expert and one curriculum development expert, and the findings of the study were obtained as a result of the feedback received. As a result of the study, it was found that the post-pre-requisite student profile was more unsuccessful in field education courses compared to the previous ones, but more successful in vocational courses and general culture courses than the students before the pre-requisite. Instructors characterized the post-pre-requisite student profile as a "dull profile". The results are summarized under related headings and suggestions are made for the field.
