Abstract

This study, it is aimed to examine picture books for children 4-6 years aged, in children's libraries in terms of values. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, has been used in the examination of children's picture books. The study group the research has consisted of 576 books, located in the Tokat Baby and Child Library. “Values Checklist” developed by Akyol (2012) has been used during the examination of the books. In the analysis of the data, content analysis has been used to examine the general value types in the books. According to the findings, when the distribution of the value in the children's picture books is examined, it has been found out that personal values are the most and social values are the least. Among the personal values, the value of politeness is the highest, the value of humility is the least. Among the interpersonal values, the value of friendship is the most, the value of harmony is the least. Among the social values, the value of obeying the rules is the most, the patriotism value is the least, and it has also been found out that the value of peace has never been encountered. In addition, when the values in children's picture books are compared in terms of publication language, it has been found that personal, interpersonal, and social values are more common in translated books than in native books. The library can be enriched for missing or low values by considering the distribution of value types in the books in the libraries.
