Examination of Attitudes of Health Personnel Candidates towards Seeking Psychological Help

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the attitudes of health personnel candidates towards getting psychological help. Relational model was used in the study. The study group of the study consisted of 512 healthcare personnel candidates studying in different departments of Cappadocia University. 13 students who were found to have completed the scale form incompletely or incorrectly were excluded from the study, thus the study was conducted on 499 students. 348 of the participants are girls and 151 of them are boys. The data in the study were obtained by using the Psychological Help Attitude Scale-Short Form and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher. The results of the study revealed that the attitudes of the healthcare candidates participating in the study towards psychological help differ significantly in terms of gender and referral of their patients to a mental health professional if they think it is necessary, and not significantly different from where they spend most of their lives and whether to get psychological help from a psychiatric care professional. The results obtained were discussed based on the relevant literature.

Abstract

Bu araştırmada sağlık personeli adaylarının psikolojik yardım almaya ilişkin tutumlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, Kapadokya Üniversitesinin farklı bölümlerinde öğrenim gören toplam 512 sağlık personeli adayı oluşturmuştur. Ölçek formunu eksik veya hatalı doldurduğu tespit edilen 13 öğrenci araştırma dışı bırakılmış, böylelikle araştırma 499 öğrenci üzerinde yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan katılımcıların 348'i kız, 151'i erkek öğrencidir. Araştırmada veriler Psikolojik Yardım Almaya İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği-Kısa Formu ve araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları, araştırmaya katılan sağlık personeli adaylarının psikolojik yardım almaya ilişkin tutumlarının cinsiyete ve gerekli olduğunu düşündükleri takdirde, hastalarını bir ruh sağlığı uzmanına sevk etmelerine göre anlamlı ölçüde farklılık gösterdiğini, yaşamlarının büyük bir kısmını geçirdikleri yere ve bir ruh sağlığı uzmanından psikolojik yardım hizmeti alıp almamalarına göre ise anlamlı ölçüde farklılık göstermediğini ortaya koymuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar ilgili literatüre dayanarak tartışılmıştır.
