THE QUALITY OF FACULTY LIFE SCALE A STUDY ON VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY

Abstract

The aim of the study is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that helps to gather data about the quality of faculty life. “Quality of School Life Scale”, developed to reach this goal, was applied to 502 students from different faculties of Ankara University. These students were, sophomores, juniors and seniors. The initial form of the scale was submitted to 15 different experts for suggestions. At the end of the necessary corrections and changes the tool was ready to be applied. Following the application, a factor analysis was used to determine the construct validity of the tool. As a result of the factor analysis, it was observed that the tool had a structure of three sub- dimensions. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficients calculated to determine reliability of the tool ranged from 0.67 to 0.83 for the sub-dimensions and it was shown that the coefficient was 0.87 for the overall scale. Hence, it can be said that the tool devised is a valid and reliable tool of measurement in order to assess the quality of faculty life.

FAKÜLTE YAŞAMININ NİTELİĞİ ÖLÇEĞİ GEÇERLİK VE GÜVENİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı; fakülte yaşamının niteliğine ilişkin bilgi edinilmesine yardımcı olacak, geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracının geliştirilmesidir. Bu amaçla hazırlanmış olan “Fakülte Yaşamının Niteliği Ölçeği” Ankara Üniversitesi’nin farklı fakültelerinden 502 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Bu öğrenciler fakültelerinin ikinci, üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıflarında öğrenim görmektedirler. Ölçeğin ilk taslağı 15 ayrı uzmanın görüşüne sunulmuş ve gerekli düzeltme ve değişiklikler yapılarak araç uygulamaya hazır hale getirilmiştir. Uygulamanın ardından aracın yapı geçerliğini saptamak için faktör analizi uygulanmıştır. Faktör analizi sonucunda aracın üç alt boyutlu bir yapıya sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Aracın güvenirliğinin belirlenmesi için hesaplanan Cronbach alpha güvenirlik katsayılarının alt boyutları için 0.67 ile 0.83 arasında değiştiği ve tüm ölçek için bu katsayının 0.87 olduğu saptanmıştır. Böylece hazırlanan ölçme aracının fakültelerdeki yaşamın niteliğinin değerlendirilmesi için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu söylenebilir.
