RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX AND POSTURAL DYNAMIC BALANCE AMONG 35-45 AGED WOMEN

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and postural dynamic balance among 35-45 aged women (n=40). It was measured BMI using Tanita BC-418 and stability indices were obtained using Biodex Stability System (eyes open and eyes closed). Subjects were tested 60 seconds, starting level 8 and finished level 3. It was found that 20% of subjects were normal (n=8), 45% were overweight (n=18), 35% were obese (n=14). There were found that statistically significantly difference between groups (normally, overweight and obese) in the open-eyed balance test (F(2, 37)= 7.845, p0.05). In conclusion, it can be state that a decrease in balance stability is strongly correlated to an increase in body weight among 35-45 aged healthy women. This suggests that women should be healthy weight before menopausal stage and keep it because of body weight may be an important risk factor for falling.

35-45 YAŞ KADINLARDA BEDEN KİTLE İNDEKSİ İLE POSTURAL DİNAMİK DENGE İLİŞKİSİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı 35-45 yaş grubu kadınlarda BKİ ile postural dinamik denge ilişkisinin araştırılmasıdır (n=40). Katılımcıların BKİ`leri Tanita BC-418 ile postural dinamik denge ise Biodeks stabilite sistem ile ölçülmüştür (göz açık ve göz kapalı). Katılımcılar 60 sn süreyle 8. seviyede başlayıp 3. seviyede sonlandırılarak test edilmiştir. Katılımcıların; % 20`si normal, (n=8), % 45`i kilolu (n=18), % 35`i obez n=14) olarak belirlenmiştir. BKİ`ne göre gruplar arasında (normal, kilolu ve obez) göz açık OA indeks farkı (F(2, 37)= 7.845, p0.05). Sonuç olarak, 35-45 yaş kadınlarda BKİ arttıkça denge becerisinin zayıfladığı söylenebilir. Denge becerisinin azalması düşme riski taşıdığından kadınların menapoz öncesinde sağlıklı BKİ aralığında olmaları ve her yaş döneminde bunu korumaları önem taşımaktadır.
