Abstract

Objective; to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of the public regarding the use of antibiotics. Method; the population of our study consists of people residing in the city center of Sakarya. The sample of the study consists of 265 individuals who agreed to participate in the study. In the study, a form consisting of socio-demographic characteristics, Knowledge of Antibiotic Use and Attitude towards Antibiotic Use questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. Descriptive statistical methods, reliability analysis, and chi-square test were used in the analysis of the data. The data were analyzed at a 95% confidence interval (p=0.05). Results; it was found that more than half of the participants both had sufficient knowledge of antibiotic use and had a good attitude towards the use of antibiotics. A relationship was found between knowledge of antibiotic use and questions of attitude towards antibiotic use. The relationship between the Knowledge of Antibiotic Use and the Attitude towards Antibiotic Use scale and socio-demographic variables was determined. Conclusion; participants who have a good level of knowledge about antibiotic use have a positive attitude towards antibiotic use. In this context, it may be beneficial to help people develop interventions by increasing their awareness of the risks of inappropriate antibiotic use and to reduce misconceptions about antibiotic use.
