Using Vodcast in Secondary School English Learning: Effect on Language Proficiency and Speaking Anxiety
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of vodcasts created by students in teaching English as a foreign language on students' language proficiency and English-speaking anxiety levels. This study, which was carried out with a pre-test post-test control group design, was carried out with 48 secondary school students, 24 in the experimental group and 24 in the control group. The study was carried out in a public school located in Kahramanmaraş province in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data of the research were collected with the English Proficiency Test and the English-Speaking Anxiety Scale during the three-month implementation period. The findings of the study revealed that the vodcast learning strategy statistically significantly increased the English language proficiency scores of the students. It was found that there was no statistically significant effect on students' English-speaking anxiety. These results showed that the vodcast learning strategy improved the students' English language proficiency, but did not significantly reduce their English-speaking anxiety.

Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı İngilizcenin yabancı dil olarak öğretiminde öğrenciler tarafından oluşturulan vodcastlerin öğrencilerin dil yeterliklerine ve İngilizce konuşma kaygısı düzeylerine etkisini incelemektir. Ön-test son-test kontrol gruplu desenle gerçekleştirilen bu çalışma, 24 deney grubunda, 24 de kontrol grubunda olmak üzere 48 ortaokul öğrencisiyle yürütülmüştür. Çalışma, 2021-2022 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Kahramanmaraş ilinde yer alan bir devlet okulunda gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri üç aylık uygulama sürecinde, İngilizce Yeterlik Testi ve İngilizce Konuşma Kaygısı Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, vodcast öğrenme stratejisinin öğrencilerin İngilizce dil yeterlik puanlarını istatistiki olarak anlamlı düzeyde arttırdığı tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin İngilizce konuşma kaygılarında ise istatistiki olarak anlamlı bir etki oluşturmadığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu sonuçlar, vodcast öğrenme stratejisinin öğrencilerin İngilizce dil yeterliklerini geliştirdiğini ancak İngilizce konuşma kaygılarını anlamlı düzeyde düşürmediğini göstermiştir.
