There are many studies examining the effect of foreign direct investment
on unemployment in the economy literature. When these studies are examined, it
is seen that foreign direct investments effect unemployment both positively and
negatively. In this study, the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the
unemployment in Turkey have been analyzed by Johansen cointegration test and
Granger causality test method using the data between 1980-2016. According to
the empirical findings of the study, there was a negative and statistically
significant relationship between FDI and unemployment in the long run. In other
words, the increase in FDI in the long run decreases unemployment. According to
the results of the Granger causality test, there is no relationship between FDI
and unemployment in the short term.
