Abstract

THE DILEMMA OF TURKISH EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF MODERN AND POSTMODERN THOUGHTS

Year 2023, Critical Reviews of Scientific Knowledge Produced in the Field of Educational Administration, 21 - 27, 10.04.2023

Abstract

People and organizations as living, developing and ever-changing entities are continuously being affected by the environment and transformed. The post-modern paradigm that is alleged to be effective around the world since 1950 could only be comprehended with the knowledge of modern thought that was popular between 1650-1950 throughout the world. In this way, the essence of postmodernism, why it emerged, what it supports and criticizes, and how it imagines the world could be best understood. Furthermore, postmodernism has caused a critical transformation in the field of educational administration as it does in social sciences. Positivism which had a comprehensive and enormous influence on the process of education and administration has begun to lose its effect after the harsh criticism of postmodern thinkers that supported the idea of interpretation and constructivism. Their newly emerged ideas depend on local dynamics, decentralization, multiculturalism, sense, feelings, flexibility, and contingency. The dilemma of the Turkish Educational Administration under the influence of modern and postmodern thoughts is analyzed in this study.
